Galleria Borghese

The Borghese Gallery is an art gallery in Rome, Italy, housed in the former Villa Borghese Pinciana. It is a building that was from the first integral with its gardens, nowadays considered quite separately by tourists as the Villa Borghese gardens. The Galleria Borghese houses a substantial part of the Borghese collection of paintings, sculpture and antiquities, begun by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V (reign 1605–1621).

Ludovisi (rione of Rome)

Ludovisi is the XVI rione (historic district) of Rome. Its coat of arms has three golden bands and a golden dragon, everything on a red background. It is the coat of arms of the noble Ludovisi family, which here owned the beautiful villa bearing the same name. The villa and the surrounding gardens, except few annexes, were destroyed at the end of nineteenth century to build the new district. The most important street of the rione Ludovisi is Via Veneto.

Porta Pia

Porta Pia is a gate in the Aurelian Walls of Rome, Italy. One of Pope Pius IV's civic improvements to the city, it is named after him. Situated at the end of a new street, the Via Pia, it was designed by Michelangelo in replacement for the Porta Nomentana situated several hundred meters southwards, which was closed up at the same time. Construction began in 1561 and ended in 1565, after the artist's death.

Museo Civico di Zoologia

Porta Pinciana

Porta Pinciana is a gate of the Aurelian Walls in Rome. The name derives from the gens Pincia, who owned the eponymous hill. In ancient times it was also called Porta Turata ("Plugged Gate", for it was partially closed) and Porta Salaria vetus, as the oldest Via Salaria passed under it (the Via Salaria nova passed under the Porta Salaria). The gate was built under the emperor Honorius in the early 5th century, by adapting a previous smaller service entrance.

Palazzo Margherita

Palazzo Margherita, or palazzo Piombino, is a palazzo on Via Veneto in Rome. It was built from 1886 to 1890 by Gaetano Koch for prince Rodolfo Boncompagni Ludovisi, prince of Piombino, on a now-vanished portion of the Villa Ludovisi. The high cost of the palace forced the prince to sell it to the Italian state. The palace is named after queen Margherita of Savoy, who lived there after the assassination of her husband Umberto I in Monza in 1900, till her death in 1926.

Porta Collina

The Colline Gate was a landmark in ancient Rome, supposed to have been built by Servius Tullius, semi-legendary king of Rome 578–535 BC. The gate stood at the north end of the Servian Wall, and past it were two important streets, the Via Salaria and Via Nomentana. Within this area the Alta Semita linked the Quirinal with the Porta Carmentalis. Several temples were located near the gate, including temples of Venus Erycina and Fortuna.
