Metropolitan Borough of St Marylebone
The Metropolitan Borough of St Marylebone was a Metropolitan borough of the County of London from 1900 to 1965. It was based directly on the previously existing civil parish of St Marylebone, which was incorporated into the Metropolitan Board of Works area in 1855, retaining a parish vestry, and then became part of the County of London in 1889. It was that part of the current City of Westminster which is north of Oxford Street, and east of Maida Vale and Edgware Road.

The street is most famous for its connection to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, who lives at a fictional 221B Baker Street address. The area was originally high class residential, but now is mainly occupied by commercial premises.
Balcombe Street Siege
The Balcombe Street Siege was an incident involving members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the Metropolitan Police Service of London lasting from 6 to 12 December 1975. The siege ended with the surrender of the four IRA volunteers and the release of their two hostages. The events were televised and watched by millions.
London Planetarium
The building known as the London Planetarium was in Marylebone Road, London. It was adjacent to Madame Tussauds and was owned by the same company. A famous London landmark, it was once a notable tourist attraction, housing a "Planetarium", which offered shows relating space and astronomy. It closed in 2006 as a separate attraction and is now part of Madame Tussaud's. From 2010 forward, the building that once housed the London Planetarium houses the Marvel Superheroes 4D attraction.

Hyde Park and Regent's Park bombings
The Hyde Park and Regent's Park bombings occurred on 20 July 1982 in London, England. Members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) detonated two bombs during British military ceremonies in Hyde Park and Regent's Park. The explosions killed eleven military personnel: four soldiers of the Blues & Royals and seven military bandsmen of the Royal Green Jackets. Seven of the Blues and Royals' horses also died in the attack.

Baker Street robbery
The Baker Street robbery was a robbery of the safe deposit boxes at a branch of Lloyds Bank on the corner of Baker Street and Marylebone Road, London, on the night of 11 September 1971. The robbers had rented a leather goods shop named Le Sac, two doors down from the bank, and tunnelled a distance of approximately 50 feet passing under the intervening Chicken Inn restaurant. To avoid being overheard they only dug during weekends.

Statue of Sherlock Holmes, London
The statue of Sherlock Holmes in London, sculpted by John Doubleday, stands near the site of the fictional detective's home at 221B Baker Street. Unveiled on 23 September 1999, it was funded by the Abbey National building society, whose headquarters were on the supposed site of the famous address. As no site was available on Baker Street itself the statue is outside Baker Street tube station, on Marylebone Road.
