Smithfield, London
Smithfield (also known as West Smithfield) is an area of the City of London, in the ward of Farringdon Without, and where the present Haberdashers' Hall is located. It is situated in the north-west part of the City, and is mostly known for its centuries-old meat market, today the last surviving historical wholesale market in Central London.
Farringdon Road
Farringdon Road is a road in Clerkenwell, London. Its construction, which took almost 20 years between the 1840s and the 1860s, is considered one of the greatest urban engineering achievements of the 19th century. Not only was it one of the first engineered multi-lane roads, but it also buried the River Fleet in a system of underground tunnels, solving one of London's most daunting sanitary problems.
Saffron Hill
Saffron Hill is the name of a street in the south eastern corner of the London Borough of Camden, between Farringdon Road and Hatton Garden. The name of the street derives from the fact that it was at one time part of an estate on which saffron grew. In 1850 it was described as a squalid neighbourhood, the home of paupers and thieves.
Turnmills
Turnmills was a London nightclub on the corner of Turnmill Street and Clerkenwell Road in the London Borough of Islington. It closed on the morning of 24 March 2008. The club was the first to obtain a 24 hour dance licence in the UK spearheading the move to all night clubbing in the 1990s. It was the home of Trade, the first after hours club in Britain and was owned by the late John Newman, the father of DJ Tall Paul.
London Lesbian and Gay Centre
The London Lesbian and Gay Centre was a lesbian and gay community centre located at 67-69 Cowcross Street, London. It was established in 1985 by the Greater London Council (GLC), which donated three-quarters of a million pounds to its establishment. In 1984 The GLC published Changing The World - a charter of gay rights and supported a number of open meetings in the council chamber of County Hall during that summer.
Bleeding Heart Yard
Bleeding Heart Yard is a cobbled courtyard off Greville Street in the Farringdon area of the City of London. The courtyard is probably named after a 16th century inn sign dating back to the Reformation that was displayed on a pub called the Bleeding Heart in nearby Charles Street. The sign showed the heart of the Virgin Mary pierced by five swords.
Fabric (club)
Fabric is a nightclub in London, United Kingdom. It was voted number 1 in DJ Magazine's "Top 100 Clubs in the World" poll in 2007 and 08 and number 2 in 2009 and 10. It is located on Charterhouse Street opposite Smithfield meat market on the southern boundary of the London Borough of Islington.
The Aquarium L-13
The Aquarium L-13 was a contemporary commercial art gallery run by Steve Lowe. It was originally based in a Georgian building in Bloomsbury, London, and then moved to Farringdon. It worked with artists, musicians and writers, and specialises in more unorthodox punk-based art work, including Jamie Reid, Jimmy Cauty, Billy Childish, Sexton Ming and artists associated with the indie label Stolen Recordings.
Trade (nightclub)
Trade is a highly successful, pioneering and influential gay nightclub started in 1990 by Laurence Malice and Tim Stabler. The idea for Trade came from the brief but seminal club nite Troll (1988–89), at the Sound Shaft Heaven where some of Trade's first DJ's used to play. Trade was unlike any other club at the time as it opened from 4am Sunday morning until 1pm on Sunday afternoon at Turnmills, Clerkenwell Road, London. The club was touted as "the original all night bender".
Charterhouse Street
Charterhouse Street is a street in Smithfield, on the northern boundary of the City of London, forming the boundary with both the London Borough of Camden and the London Borough of Islington. It connects Charterhouse Square and Holborn Circus, crossing Farringdon Road and running along a number of historical sites, including Smithfield Market and the historical headquarters of the Port of London Authority.

L-13 Light Industrial Workshop
L-13 Light Industrial Workshop is an innovative contemporary art space run by Steve Lowe that opened in May 2009 in Clerkenwell, London. It is a revised incarnation of his previous galleries/small presses ‘the aquarium’ and The Aquarium L-13, and works with a small group of artists known for their unorthodox stances, in developing, exhibiting and publishing their work.
