Tower of London

Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, more commonly known as the Tower of London, is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London, England. It lies within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from the eastern edge of the square mile of the City of London by the open space known as Tower Hill. Tower Subway

The Tower Subway is a tunnel beneath the River Thames in central London between Tower Hill on the north side of the river and Vine Lane (off Tooley Street) to the south. In 1869 a 1,340 feet long circular tunnel was dug through the London Clay using a wrought iron shield, a method that had been patented in 1864 by Peter William Barlow. A 2 ft 6 in gauge railway was laid in the tunnel and from August 1870 a wooden carriage conveyed passengers from one side to the other.

Tower Hill Memorial

The Tower Hill Memorial is a national war memorial on the south side of Trinity Square Gardens, just to the north of the Tower of London. It commemorates those from the Merchant Navy and fishing fleets who died during both world wars and have "no grave but the sea". The First World War memorial takes the form of a vaulted corridor, 21.5 metres long, 7 metres wide and 7 to 10 metres high. Inside are 12 bronze plaques engraved with 12,000 names. It was opened by Queen Mary on 12 December 1928.

Traitors' Gate

Many prisoners of the Tudors entered the Tower of London through the Traitors' Gate. The gate was built by Edward I, to provide a water gate entrance to the Tower, part of St. Thomas's Tower, which was designed to provide additional accommodation for the royal family. In the pool behind Traitors' Gate was an engine that was used for raising water to a cistern on the roof of the White Tower. The engine worked originally by the force of the tide or by horsepower and eventually by steam.

St Botolph's Church, Aldgate, St Botolph-without-Aldgate, or just Aldgate Church, is a Church of England liberal and inclusive parish church in the City of London, standing at the junction of Houndsditch and Aldgate High Street. Aldgate Pump

Aldgate Pump is an historic water pump in the City of London, at the junction of Aldgate High Street, Fenchurch Street and Leadenhall Street. The pump marks the start of the A13 road to Shoeburyness, and is a Grade II listed structure. As a well, it was mentioned during the reign of King John. As the city developed, it is thought to have been taken down and re-erected in its current location in 1876, as a drinking fountain, as streets were widened.
