The New Cross house fire was a devastating house fire during a birthday party in New Cross, southeast London, on Sunday, 18 January 1981. The blaze killed 13 young black people. Some in Britain were shocked by what they perceived as indifference among the white population and accused London's Metropolitan Police Service of covering-up the cause, which some suspected was an arson attack motivated by racism.

Convoys Wharf, formerly called the King's Yard, is the site of Deptford Dockyard, the first of the Royal Dockyards, built on a riverside site in Deptford, by the River Thames in London. It was first developed in 1513 by Henry VIII to build vessels for the Royal Navy. Convoys Wharf also covers most of the site of Sayes Court manor house and gardens, home of diarist John Evelyn.
The A206 road links Greenwich with Greenhithe following the line of the River Thames. Today it is approximately 15 miles (24 km) in length, although the final section is a relatively new road. St. Paul's, Deptford
St Paul's, Deptford is one of London's finest Baroque parish churches. It was designed by architect Thomas Archer and built between 1712 and 1730 in Deptford, which was then in Kent but is now part of South East London. It was one of the 50 churches that were to be built by the New Church Commissioners, although only 12 were ultimately constructed.

Now completely buried beneath Convoy's Wharf and the run down and vandalised Sayes Court Park, the area shows little sign of its former glory, despite having been a key factor in the creation of the National Trust.
