Wimbledon Common is a large open space in Wimbledon south-west London, totalling 460 hectares . There are three named areas: Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath, and Putney Lower Common which together are managed under the name Wimbledon and Putney Commons. Putney Lower Common is separated from the rest of the Common by about 1.5 miles of built-up area of southwest Putney.
Situated in Wimbledon, the Buddhapadipa temple was the first Thai Buddhist temple to be built in the UK. It is home to monks and nuns, but welcomes visitors of any faith to view the grounds and temple as long as they are respectful. Its white exterior walls are put into contrast by the red and gold colours of the roof and decorations of the frames of the windows and doors. Southside House is a 17th century house located on the south side of Wimbledon Common. It is Grade II listed The house was built for Robert Pennington, who had shared Charles II's exile in Holland. In 1687 after losing his son to the Bubonic Plague, Pennington left London for Holme Farm, Wimbledon, which at that time was a separate village several miles from the capital. Pennington commissioned Dutch architects to build the house, incorporating an existing farmhouse into the design.
