Flintshire (historic)

Flintshire (Welsh: Sir y Fflint), also known as the County of Flint, is one of thirteen historic counties, a vice-county and a former administrative county, which mostly lies on the north east coast of Wales. Flintshire was notable as having one of the few large county exclaves (an area known as "English Maelor" or "Maelor Saesneg") to survive most of the 20th century.

St Winefride's Well

St Winefride's or Winifred's Well is a well located in Holywell, Flintshire, in Wales. It claims to be the oldest continually-visited pilgrimage site in Great Britain. The well is believed to be connected to St Mary's well and chapel in Cefn Meiriadog, Denbighshire. In that it is one of the few locations mentioned by name in the anonymous medieval alliterative poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, it is interesting to compare the site's beheading history with the beheading game in the poem.

District of Delyn

Delyn is an area in north Wales. From 1974 to 1996 it was a district of Clwyd, but is now included in the county of Flintshire. Delyn is twinned with Menden, Germany. The Borough of Delyn was formed in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 by the merger of Flint Municipal Borough with the urban districts of Holywell and Mold, and Holywell Rural District. The name "Delyn" was formed by combining the names of the area's principal rivers: the Dee and the Alyn.

Rhes-y-cae

Rhes-y-cae is a small parish and village located in Flintshire, Wales. It is situated between Pentre Halkyn and Rhosesmor and is part of the local government community of Halkyn. Holywell Workhouse Chapel

Holywell Workhouse Chapel was built in association with Holywell Workhouse in Old Chester Road, Holywell, Flintshire, Wales. It was built, together with some "vagrants' wards" for the workhouse, in 1883–84 to a design by the Chester architect John Douglas. The chapel is built in stone with a slate roof and has a shingled flèche. The workhouse later became Lluesty Hospital. The chapel is a listed building.

Holy Trinity Church, Greenfield

Holy Trinity Church, Greenfield, is in Basingwerk Avenue, Greenfield, Flintshire, Wales. It is an active Anglican church in the parish of Holywell, the deanery of Holywell, the archdeaconry of St Asaph and the diocese of St Asaph. The church was designated as a Grade II listed building on 19 August 1991. The church was built in 1870–71 to a design by Ewan Christian. It consisted of a nave and a south aisle, and had lancet windows.

Mostyn Hall

Mostyn Hall is a large house near the village of Mostyn, Flintshire, Wales. It is a Grade I listed building. It is not known for how long a building has been present on the site, but since 1660 it has been the seat of the baronets of Mostyn, and since 1831, of the barons of Mostyn. In the 1840s the 1st Baron Mostyn commissioned Ambrose Poynter to remodel the existing house. This was carried out mainly in 1846–47 in Jacobean style, this being inspired by the pre-existing building.

Downing Hall

Downing Hall was built in 1627 by the Pennant family near Whitford, Flintshire. It was later the home of Thomas Pennant, the naturalist, traveller and writer. It was partially destroyed in a fire in the early 20th Century and afterwards left derelict until it was demolished in 1953.

Mostyn railway station

Mostyn railway station was located roughly 1 kilometre north west of Mostyn, a village in Flintshire, Wales. Situated between the A458 and the village's quay it was opened on 1 May 1848 as part of the Chester and Holyhead Railway. On 1 January 1859 ownership of the line and station passed into the hands of the London and North Western Railway and later still to British Rail. There were originally two platforms to serve the two lines running through the station.
