Middlebie

Middlebie is a hamlet and parish in Dumfries and Galloway, south-west Scotland. It is approximately 2 miles east of Ecclefechan, and 6 miles north-east of Annan, on the banks of the Middlebie Burn. Middlebie Parish consists of the ancient parishes of Middlebie, Pennersax (Pennersaughs) and Carruthers, united in 1609. Middlebie was the seat of a Presbytery from some time after the Reformation until 1743. It was then divided to form the Presbyteries of Langholm and Annan.

Kirtlebridge rail crash

The Kirtlebridge rail crash was a rail crash that took place at Kirtlebridge railway station in Dumfries and Galloway. On 2 October 1872 the 21:00 night Scotch Express from London Euston, running 1 hour and 50 minutes late left Carlisle at 07:50. It consisted of 18 vehicles pulled by two locomotives. Just north of Kirtlebridge station the Solway Junction was fully interlocked but the station itself was not, nor was the block system in operation.

Kirtlebridge

Kirtlebridge is a village in Dumfries and Galloway, southern Scotland. It is located 8 kilometres north-east of Annan, 5 kilometres north-west of Kirkpatrick-Fleming, and 1.5 kilometres south of Eaglesfield. The village is located where the A74(M) motorway and the West Coast Main Line railway cross the Kirtle Water. Kirtlebridge railway station on the main line formerly served the village, and a nearby junction marked the start of the Solway Junction Railway to Annan.

Blatobulgium

Blatobulgium (also, Baltobulgio) was a Roman fort, located at the modern-day Birrens, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The name comes from the British roots *blāto- meaning "flour", and *bolgo- meaning "bag" or "bulge"; so essentially, the name is "flour-sack". There were three granaries at the fort, as demonstrated by the archaeological evidence.
