Patna, East Ayrshire
Patna, population 3,500, is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland, straddling the traditional districts of Carrick and Kyle. It was established in 1802 by William Fullarton to provide housing for workers on the coalfields of his estate. Fullarton's father had worked as an employee of the British East India Company, and the town is named after the city of Patna in India.
Polnessan
Polnessan (Scottish Gaelic: Poll an Easain) is a small rural village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. Polnessan has a population of 87, and is located one kilometre north of Patna on the A713 road. Polnessan has no facilities, except for a play park which is due for upgrading, and is effectively a long row of council housing. The houses were originally built for miners and their families on the Houldsworth pit, a nearby coal mine.
