St Patrick's Isle
St Patrick's Isle (Manx: Ellan Noo Perick) is a small island off the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, largely occupied by Peel Castle and noted for its attractive and relatively well preserved historic castle ruins. These ruins include St Patrick's Church and an Irish-style round tower, St German's Cathedral, and the more recent residence of Lords of Mann. The ancient cathedral was left to decay in the 18th century, never to be rebuilt.
Peel Castle
Peel Castle is a castle in Peel, Isle of Man originally constructed by Vikings. The castle stands on St Patrick's Isle which is connected to the town by causeway. It is now owned by Manx National Heritage and is open to visitors during the summer. The castle was built in the 11th century by the Vikings, under the rule of King Magnus Barelegs. While there were older stone Celtic monastic buildings on the island, the first Viking fortifications were built of wood.
Glenfaba
Glenfaba is one of six sheadings in the Isle of Man. It lies on the west of the island and consists of the parishes of German and Patrick. Historically, Glenfaba also included the parish of Marown toward the centre of the island. Geographically the area also includes the town of Peel which is administered separately. The only significant settlement in the sheading is St John's, where the Tynwald ceremony takes place. Glenfaba is also a House of Keys constituency, electing one MHK.
Queen Elizabeth II High School
Queen Elizabeth II High School is a co-educational comprehensive school in Peel, Isle of Man. It is commonly referred to as simply QE2 and teaches the years 7-11 as well as a sixth form for years 12-13. The school was opened on 5 July 1979 by Queen Elizabeth II, during her visit to the island to celebrate the millennium of Tynwald and since then has grown to about 850 students and about 50 staff.
Peel railway station
Peel Station was a terminus on the Isle of Man Railway; it served the city of Peel in the Isle of Man and was the final stopping place on a line that ran between Douglas and the city. It was part of the island's first railway line.
Knockaloe railway station and branch line
Knockaloe railway station served Knockaloe internment camp in the Isle of Man between 1915 and 1920. The station was at the end of a short branch line off the Douglas to Peel line of the Isle of Man Railway (IoMR). The line left the IoMR on the outskirts of Peel near Glenfaba Mills and climbed steeply in a southerly direction for about 0.7 miles (1.1 km) until it reached the village of Patrick.
Diocese of the Isles
The Diocese of the Isles, also known as the Diocese of Sodor, was one of the thirteen dioceses of medieval Scotland. The original seat of the bishopric appears to have been at Peel, on St Patrick's Isle, where indeed it continued to be under English overlordship; the Bishopric of the Isles as it was after the split was relocated to the north, firstly Snizort and then Iona.
