Blore with Swinscoe
Blore with Swinscoe is a civil parish NW of Ashbourne, in the Staffordshire Moorlands district of Staffordshire, England, on the edge of the Peak District National Park. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 123. The parish includes Blore and Swinscoe.
Blore
Blore is a small village and parish in the Staffordshire Moorlands District of England. It is on an acclivity above Dovedale, three and a half miles north west of Ashbourne, including the hamlet of Swinscoe, one mile (1.6 km) to the south and a part of the parochial chapelry of Calton. The ecclesiastical parish is Blore Ray with Okeover and the civil parish is Blore-with-Swinscoe, both with slightly different boundaries.
Norbury Manor
Norbury Manor is a 15th-century Elizabethan manor house and the adjoining 13th-century stone-built medieval Norbury Hall, known as The Old Manor in Norbury near Ashbourne, Derbyshire. It is a Grade I listed building. The manor was owned by the Fitzherbert family from the 12th century and the manor house built by William Fitzherbert in the mid-14th century is remarkably well preserved.
Norbury and Ellaston railway station
Norbury and Ellaston railway station was opened in 1852 by the North Staffordshire Railway at Norbury grid reference SK122422 south of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. (There is a later Norbury station originally opened in Surrey by the LB&SCR in 1868) It was on a branch from Rocester to Ashbourne and in 1899 it was met by the Ashbourne Line built by the London and North Western Railway from Buxton. Passenger services finished in 1954 and freight ended in 1956
Wootton Lodge
Wootton Lodge is a privately owned 17th-century country house situated at Wootton near Ellastone, Staffordshire, England. It is a Grade I listed building. The nearby Calwich Abbey estate, owned prior to the Dissolution of the Monasteries by the Priory of Kenilworth, was in 1543 granted by Henry VIII to John Fleetwood (High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1548 and 1568). Wootton Lodge was built about 1611 for Sir Richard Fleetwood Bt (High Sheriff in 1614) possibly by architect Robert Smythson.
