Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway
The Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway (L&MVLR) was a narrow gauge railway in Staffordshire, Great Britain that operated between 1904 and 1934. When in operation, the line mainly carried milk from dairies in the region, acting as a feeder to the standard gauge system. It also provided passenger services to the small villages and beauty spots along its route.
Cotton College
Cotton College was a Roman Catholic boarding school in Cotton near Oakamoor, North Staffordshire, England, also known as Saint Wilfrid's College. It closed in 1987 and the site is now derelict. It was founded in 1763 by William Errington, at the recommendation of Bishop Richard Challoner, at Sedgley Park, Sedgley, Staffordshire - now a hotel within Wolverhampton. In 1873 it moved to Cotton Hall.
Thor's Cave
Thor's Cave (also known as Thor's House Cavern and Thyrsis's Cave) is a natural cavern located at SK09865496 in the Manifold Valley of the White Peak in Staffordshire, England. It is classified as a Karst cave. Located in a steep limestone crag, the cave entrance, a symmetrical arch 7.5 metres wide and 10 metres high, is prominently visible from the valley bottom, around 80 metres (260 feet) below.
Beeston Tor
Beeston Tor is a limestone cliff in Staffordshire. It overlooks the confluence of the River Hamps with the River Manifold, and is popular with climbers. There was a small station here, of the same name, opened by the narrow gauge (2' 6") Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway on 27 June 1904, whilst being entirely operated by the North Staffordshire Railway. The station had no siding – unlike most of the stations on the line – but there was a refreshment room.
Waterhouses, Staffordshire
Waterhouses is a village in the south of the Staffordshire Peak District. It is around 8 miles from Leek and Ashbourne, being nearly the halfway point between the two towns on the A523 road, which roughly follows the southern boundary of the Peak District National Park. Waterhouses is also a civil parish, created in 1934 when the parishes of Calton, Cauldon, Ilam and Waterfall were merged; previously the village of Waterhouses was on the boundary of Waterfall and Cauldon parishes.

Sparrowlee was the name of a railway station on the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway, a 30 narrow gauge line which ran for 8 miles between Hulme End and Waterhouses, in Staffordshire, and was initially operated by the North Staffordshire Railway before being taken over by the LMS.

Blackbrook Zoological Park is a zoo in central England which exhibits the largest collection of birds in the country. It is known for its breeding of rare bird species, with over 300 successfully breeding species to date. The zoo also has a growing collection of mammals, reptiles, fish and amphibians. It is a rural zoo, set in 75 acres of farmland and moorland at Winkhill in Staffordshire, England. The nearest towns are Leek, Ashbourne and Stoke-on-Trent.
