Harecastle Tunnel

Harecastle Tunnel is a canal tunnel on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Kidsgrove in Staffordshire. It is made up of two separate, parallel, tunnels described as Brindley (2,880 yards) and the later Telford (2,926 yards) after the engineers that constructed them. Today only the Telford tunnel is navigable. The tunnel is only wide enough to carry traffic in one direction at a time and boats are sent through in groups, alternating northbound and southbound.

Golden Torch

The Golden Torch, more commonly known as The Torch, was a mod nightclub in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Located on Hose Street, behind the Sneyd Arms Hotel on Tower Square, the club was opened on 30 January 1965 by headliners Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas. Acts such as the Kinks and Wayne Fontana followed. Peter Stringfellow was amongst the many DJs to have had a residency there.

Kidsgrove Urban District was an urban district in the county of Staffordshire. It was formed in 1894 with the civil parishes of Hardings Wood, Kidsgrove, Newchapel and Talke. It was abolished in 1974, by virtue of the Local Government Act 1972, when it was absorbed into the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Bathpool Park

Bathpool Park is a public park situated in a rural area in Staffordshire near the border with Cheshire. The nearest town to the park is Kidsgrove. The park became notorious in 1975 as the location for the murder of the kidnapped Shropshire heiress Lesley Whittle. Her body was found hanging from a steel wire at the bottom of a shaft in the park. She fell or was pushed by a killer known as the Black Panther-Donald Neilson.

Kidsgrove Liverpool Road railway station was the northernmost station on the Potteries Loop Line and served the town of Kidsgrove, Staffordshire. It was opened as Kidsgrove in 1875, but renamed in 1944 when the nearby Harecastle station became Kidsgrove railway station. The site of the station is now occupied by a Tesco supermarket.

Market Street Halt railway station

Market Street Halt was the smallest station to serve the town of Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, England. It was opened in 1909 and located on the Potteries Loop Line. At first it was used by trains in both directions but was later served only by northbound trains due to the severe gradient, being a 1 in 40 climb southbound. Although only a halt, it had a considerable length of platform and modest wooden buildings, plus an old NSR carriage used as a waiting room.
