The station is 18 miles 36 chains from Crewe South Junction (approximately 14.0 mi north of Shrewsbury) on the Welsh Marches Line. Wem Rural is a civil parish in Shropshire, England that encircles the market town of Wem which is a separate parish ("Wem Urban"). The parish has three wards - Edstaston ward to the north and north east of Wem, Newtown ward to the north and north west of Wem and the confusingly named Wem ward to the west, south and east of Wem. The parish was formed in 1900 from the outer part of Wem, the inner part of which became the parish of Wem Urban in the Wem urban district.

Hawkstone Hall

Hawkstone Hall is a large early 18th century country mansion near Hodnet, Shropshire, England which is occupied as the pastoral centre of a religious organisation. It is a Grade I listed building. The manor was acquired by Sir Rowland Hill (MP) in 1556 and remained the seat of the family for some 350 years. The present house was built between 1700 and 1725 by Richard Hill, second of the Hill Baronets.
