Most of the village is in the Montford parish, but some is covered by the Bicton parish. The A5 road used to run through the village (over the Montford Bridge), but has been diverted via the Shrewsbury by-pass. It is 5.9 miles outside of Shrewsbury, the county town of Shropshire, England. Its landmarks include Shrawardine Castle and St Mary's Church. The castle, known as Castell Isabella by the Anglo-Normans, was built in the reign of Henry I of England, and dismantled in 1645.
