Puzzlewood

Puzzlewood is an ancient woodland site, near Coleford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England. The site, covering 14 acres, shows evidence of open cast iron ore mining dating from the Roman period, and possibly earlier. It is now a tourist attraction. Over a mile of pathways were laid down in the early 19th century to provide access to the woods, and provide picturesque walks. The area contains strange rock formations, secret caves and ancient trees, with a confusing maze of paths.

Clearwell

Clearwell (anciently "Clower-Wall" etc. ) is a village and former ancient manor in the Forest of Dean, West Gloucestershire, England. A recent survey indicated that the population of Clearwell is approximately 350. There are mines locally that date back over 7,000 years to the mining of ochre and are known as Clearwell Caves. Later, the Romans mined iron at Clearwell Meend and it is world famous for arming the Roman army.

Clearwell Castle

Clearwell Castle is a mock Gothic mansion located in Clearwell, Gloucestershire. First known as Clearwell Court, it was built for Thomas Wyndham in 1728 to replace an older house which occupied same site. Its name was changed to Clearwell Castle in 1908. The building was constructed of local stone in Gothic style with battlements. It has an imposing gateway formed by two three-storey towers.

Perrygrove railway station

Perrygrove railway station is the home of the 15 in (381 mm) gauge Perrygrove Railway. The railway was opened in 1996 and is a heritage railway. Most of the rolling stock are reconstructions of originals built by Sir Arthur Heywood for the Eaton Hall Railway and Duffield Bank Railway. There is a run round loop, platform, picnic area, station building, parking, museum and engine shed located at the station. Guided tours are available of the shed.

Stow Green, St Briavels

Stow Green Castle, also known as Castle Tump, was a castle near the village of St Briavels in Gloucestershire, England. The castle is believed to have been built after the Norman Conquest. The castle was a small circular ring-motte fortification, once measuring 35 yards across, now only 25 yards, with a high motte, or mound, in the middle and a protective ditch around it. The entrance to the castle was on the south side of the fortification.
