Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall
The Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall, Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex is a Grade I listed building and among the oldest largely intact Christian church buildings in England. It is the 19th oldest building in England and is still in regular use. The building dates from the 7th century.
The Strood
The Strood is a causeway crossing the marshes and the Strood Channel between the coast of Essex in the south east of England and Mersea Island. About half a mile (800 metres) in length, it carries the B1025 Mersea to Colchester road and is the only road access to the island. It is regularly inundated at high tide; local people carry a tide table to avoid being trapped on the wrong side.
1884 Colchester earthquake
The Colchester earthquake, also known as the Great English Earthquake, occurred on the morning of 22 April 1884 at 09:18. It caused considerable damage in Colchester and the surrounding villages in Essex. In terms of overall destruction caused it is certainly the most destructive earthquake to have hit the United Kingdom in at least the last 400 years, since the Dover Straits earthquake of 1580.

Cobmarsh Island lies off Mersea Island in the English county of Essex. Cobmarsh Island is off the yachting resort of West Mersea and races round it feature in many events.
Ray Island
Ray Island is a sandy mound rising out of the saltings close to Mersea Island, Essex, England. It has a shingly foreshore/beach area on its northern side, with a sizeable freshwater pond nearby, and extensive areas of rough grassland. On higher ground, there are blackthorn thickets and some old hawthorns. The southern edge of the island has some natural transition areas of saltmarsh-grassland-scrub.
Peldon
Peldon is a village in the Colchester borough of Essex, England and forms part of the Winstred Hundred civil parish. It is near the villages of Little Wigborough and Langenhoe. The parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and is a grade 1 listed building. Peldon was significantly damaged by the 1884 Colchester earthquake. Peldon also had two windmills. It was in the Winstree hundred.
