Yes Tor

Yes Tor is the second highest point on Dartmoor, Devon, South West England, at 619 metres above sea level. Together with nearby High Willhays they are the only two peaks above 2,000 feet south of the English Peak District National Park. It lies within a British Army firing range and safe access is only possible on days or nights when firing is not taking place. See the current Dartmoor Firing Notice. Yes Tor is three metres lower than the nearby High Willhays.

|} The Okehampton to Bude Line was a railway line built to serve Bude, on the Cornish coast near the Devon border in the United Kingdom. It branched from a main route at Meldon Junction, a little to the west of Okehampton, on the northern margin of Dartmoor. The line is now closed.

Battle of Sourton Down

Battle of Sourton Down was a battle of the first English civil war that took place on 25 April 1643. Sourton Down lies on the edge of Dartmoor west of Okehampton in Devon. The battle involved Cornish Royalist troops under Sir Ralph Hopton who were ambushed by Major-General James Chudleigh with his cavalry. Captain Drake also led a charge against Royalist dragoons. Other Royalist commanders included Lord Mohun, Sir Bevil Grenville and Sir Nicholas Slanning.

Museum of Dartmoor Life

The Museum of Dartmoor Life (MDL) is a local museum in Okehampton, Devon, southwest England. It covers life in the Dartmoor area. The museum opened in 1981. It is housed on three floors in an early 19th century mill and there is a waterwheel at the museum. The collections concentrate on the social history of Dartmoor and Okehampton from prehistoric times to the present. The museum is run as an independent charitable trust with a board of trustees.

Maddaford Moor Halt railway station

|} Maddaford Moor Halt was a railway station on the Bude Branch that closed in 1966. The halt was located where the line passed under the A3079, at a hamlet now known as Thorndon Cross, four miles west of Okehampton. Maddaford Moor Halt was opened in 1926 by the Southern Railway (SR) many years after the line to serve the coastal town of Bude was opened in 1898. The station had been proposed for closure in the Beeching Report.
