The parish name is taken from St Melaine, a 6th century bishop of Rennes, Brittany.

St Dominic is a civil parish and village in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village is situated 2+⁄2 miles east of Callington and five miles (8 km) north of Saltash. St Dominick is the historic spelling but this is gradually changing to drop the letter K. It is still spelt with the K on Ordnance Survey mapping but Cornwall Council spells the parish name without the K.
