Ellesmere Port and Neston

Ellesmere Port and Neston was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district with borough status in Cheshire, England. It covered the southern part of the Wirral Peninsula, namely that part which is not included in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral. The district had a population of about 81,800 (2006 estimate). Its main town was Ellesmere Port, an industrial town on the Manchester Ship Canal, which connects at Eastham locks to the River Mersey.

Ellesmere Canal

Ellesmere Canal was a waterway in England and Wales that was planned to carry boat traffic between the rivers Mersey and Severn. The proposal would create a link between the Port of Liverpool and the mineral industries in north east Wales and the manufacturing centres in the West Midlands. However the canal was never finished as intended. Problems arose because of the project's raising costs and the failure to generate the expected commercial traffic.

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo is a zoological garden at Upton-by-Chester, in Cheshire, England. It was opened in 1931 by George Mottershead and his family, who used as a basis some animals reported to have come from an earlier zoo in Shavington. It is one of the UK's largest zoos at 111 acres . The zoo has a total land holding of approximately 400 acres . Chester Zoo is currently operated by the North of England Zoological Society, a registered charity founded in 1934. RAF Hooton Park

RAF Hooton Park, on the Wirral Peninsula, Cheshire, was a Royal Air Force station originally built for the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 as a training aerodrome for pilots in World War I. During the early/mid-1930s, it was one of the two airfields handling scheduled services for the Merseyside region. Hooton Park was home to No. 610 (County of Chester) Squadron and, post World War II, to No. 611 (West Lancashire) and No. 663 (AOP) Squadron.

Ledsham railway station

Mollington railway station

Mollington railway station was on the Chester and Birkenhead Railway near to the village of Mollington in Cheshire, England. Crabwall Hall

Crabwall Hall is a former country house, later a hotel, in the village of Mollington, Cheshire, England. The present building dates from the 18th century. It replaced an early 17th-century house built for the Gamul family. The house was originally a "modest brick cottage" and it was refaced in the early 19th century. Figueirdo and Treuherz comment that this give it "the appearance of a toy fort". The interior was remodelled in about 1900.

Mount Manisty

Mount Manisty is a hillock located between the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey 1.5 miles northwest of Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, England. The mound, which is 100 feet tall, was created from earth excavated during the building of the ship canal between Eastham and Ellesmere Port in the late 19th century. The feature forms a narrow elevated stretch of land between the canal (this section of navigation is known as Manisty cutting) and the river.
