Widnes Dock
Widnes Dock was situated on the River Mersey at Widnes. It was built in 1833 between the end of the Sankey Canal and the St Helens and Runcorn Gap Railway. It was the first rail-to-ship facility in the world. The remains of the dock are to be found on Spike Island.
West Bank Dock
West Bank Dock was situated on the River Mersey at Widnes. Built in 1864 to cater for the growing chemical industry. The dock closed in the 1970s.

Spike Island, Cheshire
Spike Island, Halton Borough, Widnes, England, a birthplace of the British chemical industry, is a reclaimed toxic waste site. The island is formed by the Mersey Estuary and the Sankey Canal. Its maze of abandoned chemical factories, rail lines, canal and industrial dockage, and industrial pollution, which had declined into a rust belt toxic wilderness, was reclaimed as woodland, wetlands and green space between 1975 and 1982.

St Bede's Church, Widnes
St Bede's Church, Widnes is in the town of Widnes, Cheshire, England. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building, and is an active Roman Catholic church. The church was completed in 1847 to a design by Weightman and Hadfield. It is built in red sandstone with a slate roof. Its plan consists of a west tower, a nave with clerestory, north and south aisles, a chancel and a south porch. The tower has angle buttresses, gargoyles and crenellations.
