Ellesmere Canal

Ellesmere Canal was a waterway in England and Wales that was planned to carry boat traffic between the rivers Mersey and Severn. The proposal would create a link between the Port of Liverpool and the mineral industries in north east Wales and the manufacturing centres in the West Midlands. However the canal was never finished as intended. Problems arose because of the project's raising costs and the failure to generate the expected commercial traffic.

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo is a zoological garden at Upton-by-Chester, in Cheshire, England. It was opened in 1931 by George Mottershead and his family, who used as a basis some animals reported to have come from an earlier zoo in Shavington. It is one of the UK's largest zoos at 111 acres . The zoo has a total land holding of approximately 400 acres . Chester Zoo is currently operated by the North of England Zoological Society, a registered charity founded in 1934. The zoo receives no government funding.

Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet

Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet is the UK's largest outlet centre, with 145 stores. It was, at one point, the largest in Europe. It is located in the village of Little Stanney near Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, close to Junction 10 of the M53. Stanlow Refinery

Stanlow Refinery is an oil refinery owned by Essar Energy in Ellesmere Port, North West England. It was previously owned by Royal Dutch Shell until 2011. The refinery is situated on the south bank of the Manchester Ship Canal, which is used to transport seaborne oil for refining and chemicals for Essar and Shell. Stanlow has a refining capacity of 12 million tonnes per year with a barrel per day capacity of 296,000.

Stanlow Abbey

Stanlow Abbey (or Stanlaw Abbey) was a Cistercian abbey situated on Stanlow Point on the banks of the River Mersey in the Wirral Peninsula, Cheshire, England. The abbey was founded in 1178 by John FitzRichard, the sixth Baron of Halton. Roger de Lacy, John de Lacy and Edmund de Lacy, respectively the 7th, 8th and 9th Barons of Halton, were buried at Stanlow. The abbey was in an exposed situation near the Mersey estuary and it suffered from a series of disasters.

St Oswald's Church, Backford, is located in the village of Backford, to the northwest of Chester, Cheshire, England, close to the A41 road and adjoining Backford Hall. It is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building. The church dates from the 14th century with later additions and restorations.
