It is 1.5 miles ENE of Cumnock, and about 1-mile from Cronberry and 2 miles from Gasswater. Lugar is a station on the Mauchline and Muirkirk branch of the Glasgow and South Western Railway. Lugar is about 16.5 miles SE of Kilmarnock. Lugar was once dominated by a large ironworks with several blast furnaces.

Glaisnock Viaduct

The Glaisnock Viaduct is a viaduct over the Glaisnock Water, on the former Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway. It is located in Cumnock, East Ayrshire. The viaduct was built around 1870 and has 13 arches. It is now part of a footpath, as the railway was removed in 1964. It is a category B listed building.
