Epperstone

Epperstone is a village in Nottinghamshire located near both Lowdham and Calverton. The village has a population of around 500. Epperstone is located in the valley of the Dover Beck, 7 miles south-west of Southwell. It has an area of 2,343 acres, of which 250 acres are wooded. The common was enclosed in 1768, when 254 acres were allotted in lieu of tithes.

Oxton is located 5 miles west of Southwell, 5 miles north of Lowdham, 10 miles NE of Nottingham and 2 miles NE of Calverton, and lies on the B6386, and is very close to the A6097 trunk road. Oxton has a church, a post office, and two pubs. Oxton also has 2 fords - a small ford (crossing) within the village itself, and a much larger ford on Beanford Lane - often as deep as 1 ft whilst remaining open to all traffic.
