Mary Anning

Mary Anning (21 May 1799 – 9 March 1847) was a British fossil collector, dealer, and paleontologist who became known around the world for a number of important finds she made in the Jurassic marine fossil beds at Lyme Regis in Dorset, where she lived. Her work contributed to fundamental changes that occurred during her lifetime in scientific thinking about prehistoric life and the history of the Earth.

Ryall, Dorset

Ryall is a small village in the county of Dorset, on the south coast of Great Britain. It is situated roughly midway between the towns of Bridport and Lyme Regis, with the county town of Dorchester about 20 miles to the east. The village lies on the northern slopes of Hardown Hill, about 2 miles inland from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. To the north the village looks across the Marshwood Vale towards a line of hills including Pilsdon Pen.

Lyme Regis railway station

Lyme Regis railway station was the terminus of the Lyme Regis branch line in the west of the English county of Dorset. Serving the coastal resort town of Lyme Regis, it was sited high above the town centre as a result of the hilly nature of the local area. The line straddled the county boundary so that although the terminus was in Dorset most of the line lay in the neighbouring county of Devon.

Lyme Regis Museum

The Lyme Regis Museum (also previously known as The Philpot Museum) is a local museum in the town of Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, England. The museum building was commissioned in 1901 by Thomas Philpot, a relative of the fossil collector Elizabeth Philpot, hence the name. The architect of the building was George Vialls, who also designed the nearby Guildhall (now the Town Hall). It is built on the site of the birthplace and home of the fossil hunter Mary Anning.

Ware Cliffs

Ware Cliffs are a set of long cliffs which stretch towards the town of Lyme Regis in Dorset to the Ware hamlet in the East Devon district of Devon, England. The cliffs are stituated near Pinhay Bay, on the Devon-Dorset border. The highest point on Ware Cliffs is the 'Black Ven', which reaches a height of approximately 137 metres . There have been a notable amount of fossils found along the beaches of the Ware Cliffs in the past few years.

Monmouth Beach is a pebble and rock beach stretching approximately 1 mile from Lyme Regis's harbour, the Cobb, to Pinhay Bay,. It is part of the Jurassic Coast, situated below Ware Cliffs, and is constructed of a bay and a cove, Poker's Pool and Chippel Bay. Monmouth beach is so named because the Duke of Monmouth landed there in 1685 during his attempt to take the crown from King James II.
