Alveley
Alveley is a village and civil parish in south east Shropshire, England, along the Severn Valley on the east side of the River Severn. It has appeared in records dating back to AD50. The current church (St. Mary's) is of Norman design, built in 1140 on the grounds of an earlier Saxon church (of which only a stone cross survives). It has a notable, although badly damaged, 14th Century mural of the Seven Deadly Sins. In 1349 the Black Death is said to have killed 60% of the village population.
Hampton Loade
Hampton Loade is a village in Shropshire, England along the Severn Valley. It is situated on the east bank of the River Severn at grid reference SO747864, and is notable for the unusual current-operated Hampton Loade Ferry, a cable ferry to the hamlet of Hampton on the west bank. The ferry is responsible for Hampton Loade's name, as Loade is derived from lode, an old English word for ferry.
Highley railway station
Highley railway station is a station on the Severn Valley Railway heritage line in Shropshire, near the west bank of the River Severn and just under a mile south-east of the village of Highley. Highley is the only staffed single-platform station on the line. Other stops with one platform are unstaffed halts.
Country Park Halt railway station
Country Park Halt is an unstaffed request stop on the Severn Valley Railway heritage line in Shropshire, situated near the west bank of the River Severn, about 300 yards north of the footbridge between Highley and Alveley in the Severn Valley. The halt was built in the 1990s as part of an initiative by Bridgnorth district council (who paid for it) to serve the Severn Valley Country Park. The halt opened on 4 April 1996 and now features a red-brick shelter.
Hampton Loade Ferry
Hampton Loade Ferry is a pedestrian cable ferry linking the villages of Hampton Loade and Hampton across the River Severn in the English county of Shropshire and providing a link to Hampton Loade village from Hampton Loade station on the heritage Severn Valley Railway, in Hampton village. The crossing has been in use for around 400 years, and may have provided a route across the Severn during the Middle Ages.
Alveley Halt railway station
Alveley Halt railway station was a station in the village of Alveley, in the English county of Shropshire. The station, not used by the reopened heritage Severn Valley Railway, has been replaced by the adjacent Country Park Halt on that line.
The Engine House
The Engine House is an education centre at Highley station on the Severn Valley Railway. Opened in March 2008, it houses some of the railway's out of service locomotives, wagons and coaches. In addition to the equipment listed below, exhibits include railway artifacts and a film about the Severn Valley Railway. Amenities include a restaurant, gift shop and picnic area.
Severn Valley Country Park
Severn Valley Country Park is a country park in England, located near Alveley, Shropshire, 8 miles from Bridgnorth, roughly central in the Severn Valley. Originally the site of a huge coal mine, it is now a 126-acre park consisting of woodland, meadows and riverside banks with views over the River Severn and a Green Flag Award.
