The Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (C&D Canal) is a 14‑mile (23‑km) long, 450‑foot (137‑m) wide and 40‑foot (11‑m) deep ship canal that cuts across the states of Maryland and Delaware, in the United States. It connects the waters of the Delaware River with those of the Chesapeake Bay (the mouth of the Susquehanna River) and the Port of Baltimore. The Mason Dixon Trail is a 193-mile, blue-blazed footpath that connects the Appalachian Trail with the Brandywine Trail, passing through Gifford Pinchot State Park and White Clay Creek Preserve in Pennsylvania and White Clay Creek State Park in Delaware. The trail starts near Mount Holly Springs at Whiskey Springs on the Appalachian Trail, in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. It then heads east towards the Susquehanna River, passing through Gifford Pinchot State Park.
