Battle of Arkinholm

The Battle of Arkinholm was fought on May 1, 1455, at Arkinholm near Langholm in Scotland, during the reign of King James II of Scotland. Although a small action, involving only a few hundred troops, it was the decisive battle in a civil war between the king and the Black Douglases, the most powerful aristocratic family in the country.

Langholm Academy

Langholm Academy is a non-denominational, co-educational six-year comprehensive secondary school in Langholm, Scotland. The school was created in March 1876, with John Howie as head. During the 1880s, the school had a record as one of the best academic schools in Scotland. Currently, the school has 270 pupils: the current building was opened in 1962. A sports and leisure complex was opened alongside the school in 2002.
