Maer Hall
The large 17th century stone built country house and estate of Maer Hall dominates the village of Maer, Staffordshire. Its location in the district of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England, is attractively rural, but fairly close to the pottery manufacturing area around Stoke-on-Trent which attracted its most famous owner Josiah Wedgwood II. His nephew Charles Darwin often visited Maer, and married Josiah's daughter Emma.
Croxton, Staffordshire
Croxton is a village on the B5026 between Eccleshall and Loggerheads. It is notable for having an old windmill. The village church is called St. Pauls. It is likely that the 'Croxton pattern', a variety of blue print pattern used on china plates made in the Burslem pottery in the early 20th century, was named after this nearby village.
Broughton Hall, Staffordshire
Broughton Hall near Eccleshall, Staffordshire is a privately owned 16th century Elizabethan style manor house. It is a Grade I listed building. The manor of Broughton was owned by the eponymous Broughton family from the 13th century. The present house was built in the mid 16th century in the vernacular black and white timbered style of the Elizabethan period. Later the house was stuccoed.
