Beacon, Devon
Beacon is a small hamlet near Honiton in the county of Devon; situated at the most southerly point of Hartridge Hill.
Dumpdon Hill
Dumpdon Hill is an Iron Age Hill Fort near Honiton in Devon, somewhat overshadowed by its better known neighbour Hembury Fort it is nonetheless as impressive an earthwork. Situated in the valley of the River Otter, it is one of the largest, and most distinct hills in the area due to a large clump of beech trees situated at its summit. The top of Dumpdon is owned and maintained by the National Trust and is 250 metres (800 ft) above Sea Level.
RAF Upottery
RAF Upottery (also known as Smeatharpe) is a former World War II airfield in East Devon, England. The airfield is located approximately 6 miles north-northeast of Honiton; about 140 miles southwest of London Opened in 1944, it was used by the Royal Air Force, United States Army Air Forces and United States Navy. During the war it was used primarily as a transport airfield and for antisubmarine patrols. After the war it was closed in 1948.
Hartridge Hill
Hartridge Hill is an elongated, peat hill situated in the Luppitt catchment area of East Devon, England. Mostly privately owned and used primarily for farming this is, with a peak rising 261 metres above Sea Level, one of the highest spots in the Otter Valley. At its highest and most southerly point is located a Tumulus or burial mound.
