Dancing House

The Dancing House or Fred and Ginger is the nickname given to the Nationale-Nederlanden building in Prague, Czech Republic, at Rašínovo nábřeží. Anděl is a Prague Metro station on Line B. The station was built between 1977 and 1985, designed in the Soviet style, by Soviet architects and dedicated to the Czechoslovak–Soviet friendship. Its original name was Moskevská, after the city of Moscow; in the same year the station Prazhskaya, named after Prague, was opened on the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya Line of the Moscow Metro. The station was renamed in 1990 to Anděl, after the nearby Anděl neighborhood.

Smíchov

Smíchov is (since 1909) a district of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, and is part of Prague 5. It is located on the west bank of the Vltava (Moldau) river. Between 1945 and 1989, the district contained a monument dedicated to Soviet tanks in World War II, which was located in Štefánik square. The monument was removed shortly after the Velvet Revolution and a new glass-and-steel building designed by French architect Jean Nouvel became a symbol of the district.

Anděl is a busy crossing and its immediate neighbourhood in Prague 5's central quarter of Smíchov. The name means angel in the Czech language and originates from the 19th century U zlatého anděla (Golden Angel) pub originally named after an angel statue in front of it. The pub's awning painting of an angel was preserved after its demolition and is now displayed nearby. Anděl is an important traffic center.

Petřín funicular

The Petřín funicular is a funicular railway in the Czech capital city of Prague. It links the Malá Strana district with the top of Petřín hill. The funicular has three stops: Újezd (at the bottom of the hill), Nebozízek (the middle station) and Petřín (at the top of the hill). According to Czech legend, the name of the middle station stems from an incident in which Emperor Charles IV, requesting food, was unable to properly pronounce the Czech words "nebo řízek".

The Memorial to the victims of Communism (Czech: Pomník obětem komunismu) is a series of statues in Prague commemorating the victims of the communist era between 1948-1989. It was unveiled on the 22 May 2002, twelve years after the fall of communism, and is the work of Czech sculptor Olbram Zoubek and architects Jan Kerel and Zdeněk Holzel.

Emmaus Monastery

The Emmaus monastery is an abbey established in 1347 in Prague. The area was destined to become the only Benedictine monastery of the Bohemian kingdom and all Slavic Europe. During WWII the monastery was seized by the Gestapo and the monks were sent to Dachau concentration camp, then in February 1945 it was almost destroyed by American bombing raid on Prague on 14 February 1945. The modern roof with steeples was added in the 1960s.

Palacký Bridge

The Palacký Bridge (1876) is a bridge in Prague. It is one of the oldest functioning bridges over the Vltava in Prague after the Charles Bridge. It was built as the third major bridge shortly after the 1868 opening of the Franz Joseph I Suspension Bridge, designed by Rowland Mason Ordish which was damaged in 1941 and dismantled in 1946. Josef Václav Myslbek created statues of four pairs of legendary couples for the bridge. These were later removed to the grounds of the Vyšehrad.
