Amenia is a hamlet in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 955 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area. The community of Amenia is in the Town of Amenia on US Route 44 at the junction of Routes 22 and 343.

The name is derived from the Latin word, amoena, which means "pleasant to the eye. " The Town of Amenia is on the east border of the county. The town has train service to New York City via the Metro North Railroad. The local train station is called Wassaic, after the hamlet of Wassaic--a part of Amenia.

The Tenmile River (formerly State School) Metro-North Railroad station serves the residents of Amenia, New York via the Harlem Line. About every two hours trains depart bound for Southeast which connect to trains for New York City with service to Grand Central Terminal. It is 80 miles from Grand Central Terminal and travel time to Grand Central is approximately two hours, nine minutes. This station is the second/second-to-last station in the Zone 10 Metro-North fare zone.

The Wassaic Metro-North Railroad station serves the residents of Wassaic, New York as the northern terminal of the Harlem Line. Trains leave for New York City every two hours, and about every 30 minutes during rush hour. It is 82 miles from Grand Central Terminal and travel time to Grand Central is approximately two hours, eleven minutes. The station consists of a single side platform, on the east side of the single track line.

Wassaic is a hamlet in the Town of Amenia, Dutchess County, New York in the United States. Wassaic is located in southeast New York State and surrounded by the East and West Mountains and along the Tenmile River. The name of the hamlet means Washaic, or "land of difficult access," by the Native Americans. Wassaic is home to The Wassaic Project, a non-profit arts and music organization and the Wassaic Artist Residency.
Beekman Park
Beekman Park is a small local park in the census-designated place of Amenia, part of Dutchess County, New York. It is located on U.S. Route 44 and is visible off New York State Route 22 and New York State Route 343 across from a nearby restaurant. In 1974, the land upon which the park is located was sold to the Town of Amenia by Walter Beekman for the sum of $1. The park was officially opened in 1983.
Beth David Synagogue (Amenia, New York)
Beth David Synagogue, formally known as Congregation Beth David, is located on East Main Street in the hamlet of Amenia, New York, United States. It is a small brick European-style building erected in the late 1920s. It was built by the area's small community of Russian Jewish emigrants. Over the years, its membership has dwindled and it has moved from its original Orthodox affiliation to Conservative, and eventually to Reform practices.

The Amenia NYCRR train station served the residents of Amenia, New York via the Harlem Line. Trains left for New York City every two hours. It is 85 miles (136 km) from Grand Central Terminal and travel time to Grand Central was approximately two hours, sixteen minutes. The station consisted of a single low-level platform, on the west side of the single track line. Amenia is the only station on the Harlem Line named for one of the senses as opposed to a name derived from a person or object.
