District of Port Talbot
Port Talbot was one of the four local government districts of the county of West Glamorgan, Wales from 1974 to 1996. The district was formed as Afan on 1 April 1974 as part of a general reorganisation of local government in England and Wales under the Local Government Act 1972. The new district was named after the River Afan and was granted a charter bestowing the status of a borough.
Port Talbot Steelworks
Port Talbot Steelworks is an integrated steel production plant in Port Talbot, Wales capable of producing nearly 5 million tonnes of steel slab per annum. The majority of the slab is rolled on-site at Port Talbot and at the Newport Llanwern site to make a variety of steel strip products. The remainder is processed at other Tata Steel plants or sold in slab form.

The electoral ward of Port Talbot in Neath Port Talbot county borough covers the town centre of Port Talbot and the district of Pen-y-cae. The rest of the ward to the east consists of grassland and woodland. The electoral ward is coterminous with the Port Talbot parish. Port Talbot is bounded by the wards of Baglan and Bryn and Cwmavon to the north; Taibach and Margam to the south; and Aberavon to the west and falls within the parliamentary constituency of Aberavon.

Aberavon Town railway station was a railway station on the Rhondda and Swansea Bay line which ran in the Rhondda Valley and Swansea area on the Welsh coast in the county of Glamorgan. Opened as Aberavon the station's name was changed twice before the emerging as Aberavon Town in 1924.
Margam Moors
Margam Moors is a community of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. Together with the community of Margam, it forms the Margam electoral ward. There were three inhabitants in Margam Moors at the 2001 census, and most of the area is open moorland with the central and northern areas occupied by Port Talbot Steelworks and Port Talbot Docks. The south west of the community is Margam Sands beach.
Mynydd Emroch television relay station
The Mynydd Emroch television relay station is sited on the eponymous hill to the east of Port Talbot, clearly visible to eastbound traffic on the M4 motorway between junction 41 and junction 40, and to westbound traffic from about 600 m before junction 40. It was originally built in the 1970s as a fill-in relay for UHF analogue television. It consists of a 25 m self-supporting lattice mast standing on a hillside which is itself about 180 m above sea level (about 150 m above the town).
