RAF Hethel
Royal Air Force Station Hethel or more simply RAF Hethel is a former Royal Air Force station which was used by both the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War. The airfield is located 7 miles south west of Norwich, Norfolk, England and is now owned by Lotus Cars.
River Tiffey
The River Tiffey is a small river in Norfolk, England and a tributary of the River Yare. It rises near Hethel and passes through Wymondham before flowing generally north-eastwards passing through Kimberley, Carleton Forehoe, Wramplingham and Barford before joining the River Yare at Swan's Harbour. Wramplingham Mill was demolished in 1945.
Hethersett railway station
Hethersett was a railway station near Hethersett, Norfolk. Opened in 1845, it was located some distance from the village it took its name from. It was located on the Great Eastern Railway Main Line between Norwich and Thetford. It was served by between ten and twelve trains a day each way during the early sixties. In 1966, however, the station was deemed surplus to requirements and closed.
Spinks Lane railway station
Spink's Lane was a railway station in Wymondham. It was opened very briefly in 1845 to trains on the line from Norwich. However two stations in the relatively small Wymondham proved to be overkill, and Spinks Lane closed after only a few months. Today Wymondham railway station is the town's sole station. Murders at Stanfield Hall
The Murders at Stanfield Hall, were a notorious Victorian era double murder on 28 November 1848 that was commemorated in print, pottery, wax, as well as a novel by Joseph Shearing. Additionally, it was the inspiration for the 1948 Hollywood drama, Blanche Fury. The victims, Isaac Jermy and his son Isaac Jermy Jermy were shot and killed on the porch and in the hallway of their mansion, Stanfield Hall, Norwich.
Hethel Old Thorn
Hethel Old Thorn is a 700-year-old tree which is the oldest hawthorn tree recorded in East Anglia. The tree is protected as a Norfolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve, which at 0.025 hectares is among the smallest Wildlife Trust reserves in the United Kingdom.
