Stocksmoor
Stocksmoor is a hamlet, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated between the villages of Shepley and Brockholes. Castle Hill, Huddersfield
Taken and adapted from Rumsby, J. 'A Castle Well Guarded: the archaeology and history of Castle Hill, Almondbury' Castle Hill is a Scheduled Ancient Monument situated on a hilltop overlooking Huddersfield, in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees. It has been settled for at least 4,000 years. Experts regard it as one of Yorkshire's most important early Iron Age hill forts. The summit of Castle Hill is by far the most conspicuous landmark in Huddersfield.
Thurstonland and Farnley Tyas Urban District
Thurstonland and Farnley Tyas was an urban district in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1925 to 1938. It was created in 1925 by the merger of the Thurstonland and Farnley Tyas urban districts (both created in 1894). In 1938 it was itself abolished, under a County Review Order, with most going to Kirkburton urban district, and part to Holmfith Urban District. The area now forms part of the Kirklees metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire.
Longley (district)
Longley is a small district in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England between Newsome and Lowerhouses. The area is mainly made up of woodland and a 9 hole golf course (Longley Park). Longley Old Hall, a listed building, is also in the area.
Lowerhouses
Lowerhouses is a large housing estate in the town of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. The district is situated between Newsome and Almondbury. There has been disputes over plans to combine the district with that of Almondbury - becoming Lower Almondbury. Lowerhouses is a residential oriented district with multiple estates situated throughout. It has a Primary school, two local shops and a takeaway store.
Storthes Hall
Storthes Hall is a part of the township of Kirkburton, West Yorkshire, England. A heavily wooded area, it comprises a single road, Storthes Hall Lane, which links Kirkburton with the nearby villages of Farnley Tyas and Thurstonland. To the immediate north is North Spring Wood. Boothroyd Wood occupies the area to the south whilst Myers Wood can be found to the east. Myers Wood is the site of a medieval iron working site. A psychiatric hospital operated at Storthes Hall from 1904–1991.
South Pennines
The South Pennines is a region of moorland and hill country in Northern England lying towards the southern end of the Pennines. It is bounded to the west by the Forest of Rossendale (sometimes referred to as the West Pennines) and the Yorkshire Dales to the north. To the east it is fringed by the towns of West and South Yorkshire whilst to the south it is often considered to end at the northern edge of the Peak District national park.
Tolson Museum
The Tolson Museum is a local museum in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is housed in a Victorian mansion in Knowle Park on Wakefield Road which was given to the town in memory of two brothers killed in World War I and was originally a natural history museum. It is run by Kirklees Council and has a wide range of exhibits related to the area's cultural and industrial history.
