Pevsner calls it 'architecturally, the most distinguished of the smaller villages in the North Cotswolds'. It is on the edge of the Cotswold Escarpment. It is within just a few minutes drive from Stanway, and five or ten minutes drive from Broadway. The Cotswold Way runs through the village.

The station was a centre of fruit and milk traffic, but receipts dwindled after a railwaymens' strike in 1954.

The then Lord Neidpath, now the 13th Earl of Wemyss, pursued, over a number of years, a restoration program.
