Chaldon Herring
Chaldon Herring or East Chaldon is a village in the English county of Dorset. It is situated within the Purbeck administrative district of the county, eight miles south-east of the county town of Dorchester. It is sited two miles from the coast amongst the chalk hills of the South Dorset Downs, the highest point in the area being Chaldon Hill about a mile and a half to the south overlooking the sea. It has a population of 166 (2001). 11.9% of dwellings are second homes.
Warmwell
Warmwell is a hamlet in south west Dorset, England, situated five miles south east of Dorchester. The village has a population of 97. Warmwell contains several historic buildings and from May 1937 was the home of RAF Station Woodsford airfield. It is now a popular holiday resort and contains a caravan park and several other small businesses.
Ringstead Bay
Ringstead Bay and the small village of Ringstead are located on the coast in Dorset, southern England. They are accessible by way of a private road that you have to pay £5 to be able to use with a car park at the end near the sea. There is an alternative car park that is free. This one is a national trust area and there is access to the sea by a 15- to 20-minute walk and there is also a picnic area. The area lies on the Jurassic Coast and is known for its natural beauty and fossils.
White Nothe
White Nothe (meaning "White Nose") is a chalk headland on the English Channel coast at the eastern end of Ringstead Bay, east of Weymouth in Dorset, England. The area is well known for its geology and fossils. Its flanks are the result of prehistoric landslides and the inaccessible slopes of the undercliff provide a secluded wildlife habitat. There is a zigzag path up the cliff, believed to be one of the locations used by smugglers in the book Moonfleet.
Moreton (Dorset) railway station
Moreton (Dorset) railway station serves the villages of Moreton and Crossways in Dorset, England. It is operated by South West Trains and is served by their trains between London Waterloo and Weymouth. Moreton Station is immediately adjacent to an automatic half barrier level crossing. Like most similar situations, this used to be a manual crossing controlled by a local signal box. This was abolished in the 1960s when signals in the locality were automated.
RAF Warmwell
RAF Warmwell is a former Royal Air Force station near Warmwell in Dorset, England from 1937 to 1946, located about 5 miles east-southeast of Dorchester; 100 miles southwest of London. During the Second World War it was used by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force.
Poxwell
Poxwell, is a hamlet in South Dorset located approximately 6 miles east of Weymouth. The current population of the village is around 50. The name originates from the ‘Pokes well’ – a well dating from the period when occupied by the Romans in the 1st century which is located on a hillside in the village. In 1989, English Heritage excavated a site nearby to this and found ruins of a settlement dating to around the same period, in which various artefacts were found.
