The municipality of Brentwood is located just outside the northeast boundary of the District of Columbia and surrounded by the communities of Mount Rainier, Cottage City, North Brentwood, and the nearby Hyattsville, . Along the Route 1 Corridor, Brentwood is part of the Gateway Arts District.

Mount Rainier, Maryland

Mount Rainier is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 8,080 at the 2010 census. Bordering Washington, D.C. , Mount Rainier got its start as a streetcar suburb. According to local tradition, surveyors from the Pacific Northwest named the town, giving the streets names such as "Shasta" and "Cascade". Historic U.S. 1 runs through the center of the town and serves as the main street and central business district.

Fort Bunker Hill

Fort Bunker Hill was a brick and earthenwork fortification built as part of the defenses of Washington, D.C. during the American Civil War. The fort was built in late 1861 by soldiers from the 11th Massachusetts Infantry regiment and was intended to assist in the defense of the northeast approaches to Washington between Fort Totten and Fort Lincoln. Company F of the 11th Vermont Infantry Regiment was assigned to Fort Bunker Hill to assist in the defense of the city until November 17, 1862.
