West Glamorgan
West Glamorgan is a preserved county and former administrative county of Wales, one of the divisions of the ancient county of Glamorgan. West Glamorgan was created on 1 April 1974, by the Local Government Act 1972 from the county borough of Swansea, the municipal boroughs of Neath and Port Talbot, the urban districts of Glyncorrwg and Llwchwr, Gower Rural District, Pontardawe Rural District, and all of Neath Rural District except the parish of Rhigos.

Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen is an electoral ward of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. The ward of Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen along with the Lower Brynamman electoral ward makes up the parish of Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen. Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen consists of some or all of the following settlements: Cwmgors, Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen and Gwaun-Leision in the parliamentary constituency of Neath. Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen consists of a built up area to the west and north, surrounded by farmland.
Cwmgors transmitting station
The Cwmgors television relay station is sited on high ground at Gwaun Cae Gurwen to the north of the village of Cwmgors in south Wales. It was originally built in 1983 as a fill-in relay for UHF analogue colour television covering the communities of Cwmgors, Gwaun Cae Gurwen and Tairgwaith. It consists of a 25 m self-supporting lattice steel mast standing on a hillside which is itself about 180 m above sea level. The transmissions are beamed broadly south to cover its targets.
