Cynwyl Elfed

Cynwyl Elfed (sometimes Conwyl) is a village and community in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. The community includes the villages of Cynwyl Elfed, Blaenycoed and Cwmduad. It is situated about 5 miles north of Carmarthen and had a population of 953 in 2001. The parish church of St Cynwyl, originally founded in the 6th century, contains 14th century elements and a barrel roof. The area around the village has yielded a significant number of Roman artefacts, including a statue of Diana.

Danycoed Halt railway station

Danycoed Halt, which is Welsh for below the trees, was built by the Gwili Railway as a halt designed for the train to run around and couple up to the carriages for the return journey. Opened in 2001 it is the current northern terminus of the line, but may be made redundant (but reduced to a run-round loop) when the railway extends one mile north into the Cynwyl Elfed station site and then further on up to Llanpumpsaint Station some two and a half miles further on.

Cynwyl Elfed transmitting station

The Cynwyl Elfed television relay station is sited on high ground to the east of the village of Cynwyl Elfed to the north of Carmarthen. It was originally built in mid 1989 as a fill-in relay for UHF analogue colour television covering the village of Cynwyl Elfed and the surrounding community. It consists of a 14 m self-supporting lattice steel mast standing on a hillside which is itself about 115 m above sea level. The transmissions are beamed west to cover the target.
