East Herts Miniature Railway
The East Herts Miniature Railway (EHMR) is situated behind Van Hage Garden Centre in Great Amwell near Ware, Hertfordshire. It opened in 1978 and by 2006 it had carried 1 million passengers. It is open Saturdays 11:00–17:00 and Sundays & Public Holidays 11:00–16:30. Its primary purpose is to give mainly steam-hauled train rides to the general public on a 7.25 gauge track. £25,000 has been donated to Amwell View School from the EHMR.
Scott's Grotto
Scott's Grotto, is a grotto in Ware, Hertfordshire built for John Scott, an 18th Century poet who owned Amwell House from 1768. The grotto, the largest in the United Kingdom, is a series of chambers extending over 65ft into the chalk hillside. The chambers are decorated with shells, stones such as flint and coloured glass. The Grotto is owned by East Hertfordshire district council and was restored in 1990 by the Ware Society.
Balls Park
The Present[edit] Balls Park Mansion in Hertford is Grade I Listed and one of the most important surviving mid-17th century houses in the UK. The estate and house are set in over 63 acres of parkland which is Grade II Listed and features on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. The estate and house are believed to have been the inspiration for some of Jane Austen’s novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’.
New River Path
The New River Path is a 28 miles long-distance footpath which follows the course of the New River from its source in Hertfordshire to its original end in Islington, London. The path is waymarked throughout its length and all signs display the NR logo.
Woollens Brook
Woollens Brook, a minor tributary of the River Lea, rises close to Ermine Street, south of Hertford Heath and flows through Box Wood in Hertfordshire. The stream flows under both the A10 and the Dinant Link Road roundabout with Amwell Street. The stream then runs parallel with Essex Road before going under it and through the Lampits where it joins another minor tributary of the River Lea, the River Lynch, at Bridgeways
