Fort Washington (SEPTA station)
Fort Washington is a station along the SEPTA Lansdale/Doylestown Line. The station, located at the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Station Avenue in the Fort Washington section of Whitemarsh Township, Pennsylvania. It includes a 585-space parking lot. Originally built in 1903 by the Reading Company, it was rebuilt with high-level platforms in 2010.
Ambler (SEPTA station)
Ambler is a station along the SEPTA Lansdale/Doylestown Line (formerly the R5). The station is officially located at the intersection of Butler Avenue and Main Street in Ambler, Pennsylvania, however the actual location is on Butler Avenue and Short Race Street, a block west of Main Street. The station includes a 496-space parking lot. The Trax Restaurant & Café operates out of the former station house, which was originally built by the Reading Company.
Clifton House
Clifton House is a historic building located at 473 Bethlehem Pike in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. During the autumn of 1777, Washington's Continental Army spent six weeks camped at nearby Whitemarsh. Colonels Clement Biddle (the "Quaker General" and member of one of Philadelphia's prominent families) and Stephen Moylan, and General George Wheedon, were quartered here during the encampment. The house that currently stands on the property was built in 1801.
Great Train Wreck of 1856
The Great Train Wreck of 1856 occurred between Camp Hill and Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, on July 17, 1856. Two trains, traveling on the same track in converging directions, collided, killing between 59 and 67, and injuring over 100. The incident was referred to as The Camp Hill Disaster in Montgomery County, and The Picnic Train Tragedy in the city of Philadelphia. It was the deadliest railroad catastrophe in the world up to that time and became one of the signature events of its era.
Skip Wilson Field
Skip Wilson Field is a baseball stadium in Ambler, Pennsylvania. It is the home field of the Temple Owls baseball team. The stadium holds 1,000 spectators and opened in 2004. It is named after former Owls baseball coach James "Skip" Wilson. Temple played their first game at the field on March 25, 2004 and beat University of the Sciences by a score of 6 to 2. Four other projected home openers had been canceled due to either bad weather or poor field conditions.
