The Battle of the Crater was a battle of the American Civil War, part of the Siege of Petersburg. It took place on July 30, 1864, between the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, commanded by General Robert E. Lee and the Union Army of the Potomac, commanded by Major General George G. Siege of Petersburg

The Richmond–Petersburg Campaign was a series of battles around Petersburg, Virginia, fought from June 9, 1864, to March 25, 1865, during the American Civil War. Although it is more popularly known as the Siege of Petersburg, it was not a classic military siege, in which a city is usually surrounded and all supply lines are cut off, nor was it strictly limited to actions against Petersburg. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge carries U.S. Route 1/U.S. Route 301 across the Appomattox River at the fall line. It joins Colonial Heights and Petersburg, Virginia. Second Battle of Petersburg

The Second Battle of Petersburg, also known as the Assault on Petersburg, was fought June 15–18, 1864, at the beginning of the Richmond–Petersburg Campaign (popularly known as the Siege of Petersburg). Union forces under Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant attempted to capture Petersburg, Virginia, before Gen. Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia could reinforce the city. The four days included repeated Union assaults against substantially smaller forces commanded by Gen. P.G.T.

Battle of Blandford

The Battle of Blandford (or Blanford), also called the Battle of Petersburg, took place near Petersburg, Virginia on 25 April 1781, late in the American War of Independence. Roughly 2,300 British regulars under the command of Brigadier General William Phillips defeated about 1,000 militia under Major General Baron von Steuben.

First Baptist Church (Petersburg, Virginia)

First Baptist Church (est. 1774) was the first Baptist church in Petersburg, Virginia; one of the first African-American Baptist congregations in the United States, and one of the oldest black churches in the nation. It established one of the first local schools for black children in the nation. Its congregation was active during the 20th century Civil Rights Movement. Today it has the largest community outreach program in the city.

Union Station (Petersburg)

Petersburg Union Station is an unused train station in Petersburg, Virginia. It was originally built in 1909–1910 for the Norfolk and Western Railway, replacing an earlier structure damaged by a flood. The station remained in use until the formation of Amtrak in 1971, when passenger service on the Norfolk and Western's tracks ended. It saw a brief revival in 1975–1977, when Amtrak operated the Mountaineer between Norfolk and Cincinnati, Ohio.
