Evercreech Junction railway station
Evercreech Junction was a railway station at Evercreech on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Originally opened in 1862 as "Evercreech" on the original S&D line from Burnham-on-Sea to Broadstone, it became in 1874 the junction for the northwards extension towards Bath that bankrupted the company. A station opened on the Bath extension more than a mile to the north of Evercreech Junction, much nearer to the village of Evercreech, was called Evercreech Village, and later Evercreech New.
Evercreech New railway station
Evercreech New, originally called "Evercreech Village", was a railway station at Evercreech on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. The station opened in 1874 with the completion of the extension of the S&D from the nearby Evercreech Junction to Bath. It closed in March 1966 when the line was shut as part of the Beeching axe. Bruton Abbey
Bruton Abbey in Bruton, Somerset was originally founded as a Benedictine priory by Algar, Earl of Cornwall in about 1005. It was subsequently refounded as a house of Augustinian canons in 1135, by William de Mohun, who later became the Earl of Somerset. The village used the north aisle of the priory church as their parish church. It was endowed with manors, churches and other properties in the area and also in Normandy in France.
Cole (for Bruton) railway station
Cole (for Bruton) railway station was a station on the Somerset and Dorset Railway in South Somerset, serving the village of Cole, which is now virtually joined to the village of Pitcombe and the small town of Bruton. Cole was the station where the Dorset Central Railway line from Templecombe met the Somerset Central Railway line from Glastonbury and Street railway station in 1862. Later that year the two companies combined to form the Somerset and Dorset Railway.
Bruton School for Girls
Bruton School for Girls is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3 to 18 located near Pitcombe in Bruton in south east Somerset, England. The school comprises Sunny Hill Nursery and Pre-Preparatory, Sunny Hill Preparatory, a senior school and sixth form with an overall attendance of approximately 260 pupils, of whom a third are boarders. A small number of boys also attend the nursery and pre-prep.
Royal Bath and West Show
The Royal Bath and West is an agricultural show for the West of England. Held every year at its permanent show ground near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, it is one of a number of County shows in the United Kingdom and is the only four-day show remaining in the United Kingdom. In 2009 and 2010 it attracted over 155,000 people.
Hadspen Quarry
Hadspen Quarry is a stone quarry in Somerset, England. It is shown on Ordnance Survey maps for 1888-90, and may have been in operation for a considerable period before that. It supplies natural stone walling throughout the West Country. The products include coursed, coursed random and random rubble walling. The stone is still split and dressed at the quarry located close to Hadspen house and garden in the small village of Hadspen, within the parish of Pitcombe just outside of Castle Cary.
