Dacre Castle

Dacre Castle is in the village of Dacre some 7 kilometres south-west of Penrith, Cumbria. In 1307 William de Dacre was granted licence to crenellate his dwelling on the site. (Actually the crenellation is for Dunmallard Hill, about 1/2 a mile away) The present building is a pele tower rather than a castle which was built in the 14th century for protection against the Scots. In 1675 Thomas Lennard, 15th Baron Dacre and 1st Earl of Sussex made additions to the tower.

Dacre Beck

Dacre Beck is a small river in Cumbria, England. Dacre Beck rises on the north side of Gowbarrow Fell and flows north past Ulcat Row, picking up streams from Lowthwaite and Matterdale End, traversing a valley between Great Mell Fell and Little Mell Fell, before changing its course to eastward at Thackthwaite. The beck collects more streams at Hutton, one of which comes south from Berrier past Beckces, near to Penruddock. From here, Dacre Beck flows past the ancient settlement of Dacre.

Dunmallet

Dunmallet or Dunmallard Hill is a small hill in the English Lake District, near Pooley Bridge, Cumbria. It is the subject of a chapter of Wainwright's book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. It reaches 775 feet and Wainwright describes the ascent, from Pooley Bridge, as a "simple after-dinner stroll". He lists two other early spellings: Dunmalloght and Dunmallock The hill is wooded and the views from the top limited. Remains of an iron age hill fort have been detected on the hill.
