Halifax Piece Hall

The Halifax Piece Hall is a building in the town centre of Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, originally built as a sales centre for woollen handloom weavers. It opened on 1 January 1779, with over 300 separate rooms arranged around a central courtyard. The term piece refers to pieces of cloth that were sold. As factories started up in the early nineteenth century the trade in handwoven wool declined and around 1815 the rules were changed to allow the sale of cotton goods.

The Shay

The Shay is a multi-use sports stadium in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England near Shaw Hill. FC Halifax Town and Halifax both play their home games at the Shay. The stadium is owned by Calderdale Metropolitan Council after the football club sold it back in the 1980s in order to pay off a number of debts. The lease however is now owned by the Shay Stadium Trust, a not-for-profit company set up to preserve the ground as a sports stadium.

Shibden valley

Shibden Valley is to the east of Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, where the community of Shibden lies. The name of the Shibden valley comes from scepe dene meaning "sheep valley". The area was heavily involved in wool production. The Red Beck stream flows down the valley, joining the River Calder at Brookfoot. Southowram stands on the southern side of the valley, and Northowram stands on the northern side of the valley.

Square Chapel

The Square Chapel in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, was designed by Thomas Bradley and James Kershaw at the instigation of Titus Knight, a local preacher. Construction started in 1772, and the chapel was visited by John Wesley in July of that year. The Congregationalist chapel was typical of Nonconformist design in offering an uninterrupted view of the preacher, having no internal supporting structures. As its name suggests, the chapel has a square base.

Dean Clough

Dean Clough in Halifax, Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England is a group of large factory buildings built in the 1840s–60s for Crossley's Carpets, becoming one of the world's largest carpet factories (half a mile long with 1,250,000 square feet of floorspace). North Bridge, Halifax

North Bridge, Halifax is a Victorian iron and stone bridge at Halifax, West Yorkshire in northern England. It crosses the valley of the River Hebble, connecting the town to roads to Bradford and Leeds. Replacing an earlier six arch stone bridge it was raised to allow the subsequent construction of the Halifax High Level Railway under it with an adjoining station. Opened in 1871 amid chaotic crowd scenes it carried increasingly heavy traffic until it was by-passed by the Burdock Way in 1973.

Halifax transmitting station

The Halifax transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility which serves Halifax in Yorkshire and is located on Southowram bank top overlooking the town from the East. Most of Halifax viewers are able to receive Emley Moor and the relay is only used in the north, east and centre of the town which is blocked by the bank on which the relay resides. Further afield, the Halifax relay also covers Elland, parts of Brighouse and along the Calder Valley as far as Sowerby Bridge.
