Upton, New York

Upton, New York is a hamlet on Long Island in the town of Brookhaven. It is the home of Brookhaven National Laboratory, and a National Weather Service station. Upton is located in Suffolk County, New York in the USA. The town is so named because it was the site of the U.S. Army's Camp Upton, which was active from 1917 until 1920, and again from 1940 until 1946. During World War II, the camp was rebuilt primarily as an induction center for draftees.

National Synchrotron Light Source

Yaphank is a station in the hamlet of Yaphank, New York on the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located on Park Street near Suffolk County Road 21 (Yaphank Avenue). It is also accessible from streets in and around Suffolk County. The distance between Yaphank and the next station, Riverhead, is the longest distance between stations in the LIRR at 14.7 miles. Government Buildings on the north side of the tracks at the bottom of the Yaphank Avenue overpass.

Southaven County Park

Southaven County Park is located in Brookhaven and South Haven, New York in central Long Island. It is located between Sunrise Highway just west of William Floyd Parkway, off of Victory Avenue (Suffolk CR 56/North Sunrise Service Road), and crossed by the Carmans River. In the 1960s, it became one of Suffolk County’s first parks opened to the public.

Brookhaven Rail Terminal

The Brookhaven Rail Terminal (BRT) is a trans-load facility in Yaphank, New York on Long Island. The 28-acre initial site was built with $40 million in private funds and opened on September 27, 2011. It is projected to take 40,000 long haul trucks off Long Island roads and handle 1 million tons of freight a year by 2016. It includes 13,000 feet of new track, with three tracks for construction material, such as asphalt and concrete, and six tracks for merchandise, such as flour and biodiesel.
