Mastic, New York

Mastic is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 15,481 at the 2010 census. Mastic is located in the southeast part of the Town of Brookhaven. The hamlet was originally called Forge. The Long Island Rail Road built a station in 1882. In 1893, the name of the hamlet was changed to Mastic. On July 15, 1960, the stop was moved 7,010 feet west and renamed Mastic–Shirley.

Moriches is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 2,838 at the 2010 census. Moriches is served by the William Floyd School District. The name "Moriches" comes from Meritces, a Native American who owned land on Moriches Neck. One of the community's most famous businesses/landmarks was the Jurgielewicz Duck Farm founded in 1919 on the edge of the Forge River.

Shirley is a hamlet in Suffolk County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of Shirley was 27,854. Shirley is a community in the Town of Brookhaven, on the South Shore of Long Island. It is named for developer Walter T. Shirley, who had the vision in the 1950s to turn the area on Mastic Bay into an affordable enclave. Shirley's company priced its 4,000 four-room homes starting at $4,700, and lots were priced at $295.

Smith Point County Park

Smith Point County Park is a park located fronting on the Atlantic Ocean on the east end of Fire Island, New York, United States, in central Long Island by Shirley. It is the largest park owned by Suffolk County, New York. The park derives its name from Smith Point, a peninsula on the Long Island mainland that extends into Bellport Bay. The peninsula was named for William "Tangier" Smith, who in the 17th century owned 50 miles of ocean-front property in the Manor of St. George.
