Sloatsburg, New York
Sloatsburg is a village in the town of Ramapo in Rockland County, New York, United States. Located east of Orange County, it is at the southern entrance to Harriman State Park. The population was 3,039 at the 2010 census. The village is named after Stephen Sloat, an early European landowner.
Tuxedo Club
The Tuxedo Club is a private member-owned country club located on West Lake Road in the town of Tuxedo, just southwest of the village of Tuxedo Park, New York in the Ramapo Mountains. Founded in 1886 by Pierre Lorillard IV, its facilities now include an 18-hole golf course, lawn tennis, court tennis, racquets, squash, platform tennis, swimming, and boating. The tuxedo was introduced by New York millionaire James Potter at the club's first Autumn ball in 1886 after a trip to England.
Ringwood State Park
Ringwood State Park is a 5000 acre (20 km²) state park in Passaic County in northeastern New Jersey, USA. The Park is located in the heart of the Ramapo Mountains in Ringwood. It's forests are part of the Northeastern coastal forests ecoregion. It contains the New Jersey Botanical Garden at Skylands, historic Ringwood Manor and Skylands Manor, and the Shepherd Lake Recreation Area. The park is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.
Sloatsburg (Metro-North station)
The Sloatsburg Metro-North station serves the residents of Sloatsburg, New York, via Port Jervis Line commuter trains to New York City via Hoboken, 35.4 miles away, and Secaucus Junction. The estimated travel time to Hoboken Terminal is about 50 minutes on express trains. It is located just south of a grade crossing and consists of short concrete platforms, and a shelter. There is limited parking available nearby.
Jacob Sloat House
The Jacob Sloat House, originally called Harmony Hall, is located on Liberty Rock Road in Sloatsburg, New York, United States. Built in the late 1840s, it is a wooden house that shows the transition from the waning Greek Revival style to the newer Picturesque and Italianate modes. It was built late in the life of Jacob Sloat, a descedant of village founder Stephen Sloat who had made a fortune as a textile merchant earlier in the century.
Old Sloatsburg Cemetery
The Old Sloatsburg Cemetery is located at the end of Richard Street in Sloatsburg, New York, United States. It began as the Sloat family cemetery with the burial of Revolutionary War casualty John Sloat in 1781. After a half-century of inactivity, it gradually was expanded to include 1,200 graves by the time of the last burial in 1949. Its landscaping reflects several different eras of cemetery design.
Sloat House
The Sloat House is located at the corner of NY 17 and Sterling Avenue in Sloatsburg, New York, United States. It is a stone house, dating to the mid-18th century, with a frame front addition built in the 1810s. It was the home for many years of members of the Sloat family, for whom the village is named. George Washington may have visited it during the Revolutionary War, and John D. Sloat, later the first American Military Governor of California, was born here.
Sloat's Dam and Mill Pond
Sloat's Dam and Mill Pond is located between Waldron Terrace and Ballard Avenue in Sloatsburg, New York, United States. The 200-foot–long (60 m) concrete dam creates the mill pond north of it by impounding the Ramapo River. It was created by Stephen Sloat in 1792, and renovated two decades later.
