The A61 is a major trunk road in England. It runs from Derby to Thirsk in North Yorkshire. From Derby, it heads north via Alfreton, Clay Cross, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield, Leeds, Harrogate and Ripon. The road is closely paralleled by the M1 motorway as far as Leeds.

Royston is a suburban village within the Metropolitan borough of Barnsley, in South Yorkshire, England. The earliest reference to New Lodge dates from 1377, when the area was referred to as 'Newe Laythes', becoming New Laithes in 1541.
Oaks explosion
The Oaks explosion occurred at the Oaks Colliery, near Stairfoot, Barnsley, South Yorkshire on 12 December 1866 killing more than 380 miners and rescuers. The disaster happened after a series of explosions caused by flammable gases ripped through the workings. It remains the worst colliery disaster in England, and the second worst mining accident in the United Kingdom.
Oaks viaduct
Oaks Viaduct was Britain's largest railway bridge that spanned the Dearne Valley, in South Yorkshire. The viaduct crossed Rotherham Road at Lundwood, and spanned across the Dearne Valley including the Dearne and Dove Canal, to the other side, connecting with Barnsley Colliery, and joined the existing Barnsley - Sheffield line.

The Barnsley Metrodome (Metrodome Leisure Complex) is a sporting facility. It is located along Queens Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, in England. It is regularly home to major worldwide ten-pin bowling events, such as the Weber Cup and World Tenpin Masters. The Metrodome played host to the 2006, 2007 and 2008 World Tenpin Masters, and the Weber Cup in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Wharncliffe Woodmoor 1, 2 and 3 colliery (part of Wharncliffe Woodmoor Colliery Company Ltd, the Wharncliffe Woodmoor Colliery Company was formed in 1873 when it purchased the New Willey Colliery, which had been sunk in 1871) was a coal mine that was located at the junction of Laithes Lane and Carlton Road, about 2 miles northeast of Barnsley, South Yorkshire and a quarter miles east of Staincross and Mapplewell railway station station, on the Great Central Railway.
